Question about HDMI output.

Hello everyone, so I have a question. I have a Lenovo y510p currently. i7 4700mq, 8gb ram, 2x GT750m's etc. I have a 24' BenQ 1080p monitor that I output it to, with a razer mouse and CM keyboard, because I like the desktop feel for gaming rather that laptop, but I still need a laptop for college. I like this setup very much and it is also very convenient for me. Enough rambling, and on to my question. I output to the monitor with and HDMI, and my question is, is this bad for the laptop? Is constantly outputting to this monitor not good for a laptop? I'm not sure if it is a dumb question, but just watched to check. Also, I know it is not overworking it, because its not getting too hot or anything, and the fans don't work harder either.

As far as the system is concerned a screen is a screen. Just leave the normal screen open at least a bit if you can to allow some heat to leave since some laptops get warm running games with the lid closed.

When you tell it use just the one screen(if you do it that way), the laptop actually uses less power since the external screen is not running from laptop power and it can shut its screen off.

Nothing about running an external screen on the laptop is going to hurt it. The video card may clock up a bit if both screens are used together(but this should not be an actual issue.).

No, HDMI is a digital signal. Very little power is sent out that port. In fact, it is more likely you would accidentally jam the cable in upside down and damage the port. Not that I think that will happen, it's just more common. The video card doesn't care where it sends the signal, or even if it's duplicated on to multiple screens.

It's very common for people to use a laptop with a docking station. That way you can leave it all hooked up, and you just dock your system when you want to use it as a desktop. No difference between video out through a dock, or through the HDMI port.
