The card by MSI features the same high quality cooler that they have on the mighty GTX 780ti, while the Gigabyte card uses a lesser cooler. This allows the MSI card to run both quieter and cooler in all applications. As for the speed, they should both be the same if you don't take temperature into account, but actually the MSI card being cooler lets it perform faster! I hope I was able to help you :)

They should both run fairly cool and relatively quiet, the MSI might be a bit cooler/quieter, but it shouldn't make a massive difference.

Since their clock speeds are identical the performance will be too, running a card cooler doesn't let it run any faster, running it cooler just gives you a bit more OCing headroom.

I am familiar with micro chip architecture and know that temperature does not play a factor in performance, that is determined by core counts, bus speeds, core speeds, load types, etc. , not by temperature. The only time it could be determined by temperature is if you were doing dynamic clocking where if you got about 50C it dropped the clock by 10Mhz for every 10C above 50 you are, but that is a change in clock speed not a change in temperature. If i take two identically clocked GPUs and run one in a hot room so it is at 80C and the other outside in upstate NY so it is 0C, as long as their clock speeds are still the same i would expect identical performance out of them.

Can you find me an article which shows otherwise?

Your point is valid. But hell, he could be jamming it inside of an HP Pavilion for all we know. Throttling happens.
