Hi all.

My HDD recently failed rendering my dell e521 useless.

I have a old hewert packard (intel) with windows 7 ultimate installed and im wandering is there is a way to transfer it to my AMD athlon system.

I want to make clear that im not at all bothered about data on the HDD I just want a working system so i can carry on playing PKR.

I dont have a OS cd so i cant do a compleate reinstall or anything like that.

I have read a few threads on here and I realize there will be driver issus, some people have said to remove all the intel drivers you can before swap?

look at this link.

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/dimension-e521ping it over.

shall i download everything on that website^^ to the drive i want to swap, remove all intel drivers, then put the HDD in the dell, if it boots, install the dell drivers i downloaded

Please help. I need some definitive answers in as simplest terms as possible. I am a self taugh amature with a pc grave yard in my bed room.

many thanks in advance. Danny

Hi

It is likely the HP PC has a HP OEM Windows 7 installed , It will object to running on a Non HP Motherboard (possibly objecting on a different HP motherboard).
If so buy a retail Win 7 and start from scratch

If this was a retail Win 7 then you have a chance of succeding
I have done it and got thru the re activation OK
The biggest problem is the Hard disk controller driver which needs to be uninstalled before shutting down .
Idealily it needs to be completely removed from the registry .

Also uninstall via Programs & Features drivers for network chip, sound chip etc.

Make sure you have the new drivers on a USB or CD/DVD before starting.

Best of luck

so i have to purchess a new hdd and windows vertion?

can i download a opy of vista, burn to cd then reinstall on a formatted hard drive?

Hi

Dell will probably sell you a Windows Vista or 7 OEM restore DVD's
at a lower price than a Microsoft OEM System Builder or Retail version.

If you are a student you may be able to get a Student version cheaply.

It is important to make a set of Windows recovery DVD's shortly after purchase and put them in a safe place if your PC does not come with the Windows recovery disks. Dell make them an optional extra.
