I am helping my co worker with an AutoCad 2014 LT problem. The program seems to lag and or freeze when he is trying to move objects and place them in different locations on his drawing. We are trying to determine if it is the OS or the graphics. He is using a Lenovo Think Centre M83 (10AM 000AUS) series Windows 7 professional 64 bit i-7 -4770 quad core with an Intel Graphics HD 4600 Shared memory DDR# SDRAM. If anyone can tell me if the PC, the graphics card or memory needs to be changed, it would be appreciated.

That is a below par PSU, try a more powerful one. A 240W PSU only delivers 20 Ampere on +12V rail. Which is bare minimum for a system with i7 CPU.

If you plan on getting a GPU then you have to replace the PSU with a decent 550W PSU.

And before adding more RAM look at the Task Manager, you will have an idea how much RAM is in use and how much is free. Don't forget to start the AutoCAD while seeing the usage of RAM. Good luck.

It could be the AutoCAD software itself as well. First try to uninstall the software completely, clean the registry entries too, then install the software again, see how it works.

If the problem persists you may try to format and clean install the OS.

For graphics you can try stress test, but I don't think it will be helpful, but still : http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/FurMark.shtml

Check your RAM : http://www.memtest.org/

BTW what is the wattage of PSU ? You can find it on the sticker of PSU.

You may need a decent GPU (GTX 760/770) for better performance. But make the measurements of the case and GPU before you buy one, and the wattage and Ampere of PSU is another important factor.

I think you are correct. The more I read, it seems there should be more than 4GB of RAM and that is what his computer has. Also there is not a separate graphics card so it is probably eating up at least 1 GB of RAM. So we are thinking additional RAM, separate graphic card or maybe just another PC.

Thanks

I tried that and could not get a person to help. When I did reach a person I was told I had the wrong division. When I went on chat I was referred to tech support but only on a forum.
