Lock-up issue, High Fly Writes possible cause?

Hello,

I've recently been experiencing random lock-ups and "half-freezes" like the task bar and some windows/applications freezing, but sometimes still being able to move the mouse and select files on the desktop. At first I thought it was software related, so I reformatted and installed Windows 7 again, but the problem persists.

In my troubleshooting I've come across this SMART report from Speccy, and noticed one of my HDDs has a warning status, but the only value that is significantly different between the two is the High Fly Writes,

My question is if the High Fly Writes is the reason for the Warning status, and if this could possibly be the cause for my lock-up problem?

Both drives are Seagate ST31500341AS, 5 years old.

Thanks for reading,
Mick

yes it could be, its the same process the drive uses for writing to a bad sector, its moves the data to a new area.

A high fly write is one where the head is detected as being to high about the platter. This could be caused by mechanical or electrical issues.

That drive also has 67 reallocated sectors (bad sectors where data was able to be recovered and moved) plus 4 where data wasn't able to be recovered.

The good drive has 22 reallocated sectors + 0 unrecoverable.

Please make sure you have important data backed up to someplace that not on these drives.
