Hi guys

Ive posted before about whether to get a 770 or a 280x, and i've come to the conclusion as to get a 770, but I have one last question.
Should I get the 770 now or wait for the 800 series, maxwell cards to be released? (I currently have a 560ti)
Does anyone also know any rough estimates of when the 800 series will be released?
It's just that i'm debating whether to buy a 770 now and buy a new case, maybe a motherboard aswell later this year, or buy the new case and motherboard now and just get the 800 series when its released.
Thanks Guys!! :D

Maxwell desktop cards will most likely be released in the fall of this year, and the rumours suggest it isn't going to be as big as a performance jump when compared to the last generation (Kepler yielded approx 30% increase versus Fermi). Notebook 800s should come out sometime in late-Feb but they are just going to be re-branded/tweaked 700's

That being said, who knows what's going to happen. A 770 will last you a long while. If your running that card you'll have no need to get a 800 series card, especially if your running at 1080. Also if you have a SLI board, you have the option to pick-up a 2nd cheaper 770 when Maxwell comes out due to a possible price drop

Dear, I'm using GTX660 and I'm waiting for next gen from nVidia. They are expected in Mar-2014 but is is heard that first notebook series GPUs will be released with desktop versions following.

Hey but wait, Rumor is that GTX 790 is being released along with black edition of Titan! Sound strange! It is!

Anyhow waiting for maxwell or buying now totally depends upon your requirement and more particularly BUDGET!!!!!!!!!
Maxwell series is rumored to be high priced tagged. If you have budget and virtue of patience then wait otherwise get yourself 770 or 780 or 780Ti whichever suits you and your budget.

So far as case and mobo goes you can buy them at any time regardless of maxwell series.

My motherboard doesnt support sli and i dont think my 750w psu would be upto it anyway, hence why ill probably get a new mobo and case now, and just wait for the 800 series, my 560ti is still running newer games ok, just not perfectly, but i can live with it.

The ones coming in March 2014 are not going to be on the 20nm process that is going to make a Maxwell card worth having. They'll be on the same 28nm process as the Kepler chips, so it is likely NVIDIA is going to release the budget 800-series cards before they release the 860/870/880 equivalents. Some site had already leaked a "750 Ti" running on the Maxwell 28nm at some point I believe.

I'd say go ahead and get a 770. I tend to get the second card in a generation when they've got all the optimizations set up, then skip the new generation, since Nvidia seems to be on a two-year optimization schedule on new formats (400/500 Fermi, 600/700 Kepler...). That'll last you at least until the 900-series improvements to Maxwell come out.

If you need the performance now, get an EVGA card. They have a 90 day step up program so if the 800 series is released within that window you can upgrade and just pay the difference. Good thing about that is that if it isn't released in that window, then getting the 770 will have been worth it as waiting months and months for electronics is pointless as there is always word of something better around the corner.
