Hey guys,

Mainly looking for any compatibility issues that I may have missed, but also looking to weed out any components that may be overkill(psu maybe?).

If you see anything else that may not work or have any suggestions to cut costs it would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

***Also... I was debating dropping another 100 for a gtx 780, anybody think that the 770 will have problems running 60fps+ on ultra(single monitor 1080) in stuff like bf4?

Solution
When I said neck and neck I never meant performance. I didn't even mention benchmarks. I was talking about the choice between them and the price difference since its extremely relevant in this post. Yes the 780 is better at performance but that's why it costs more. The asker needs the best card for his money not the best performance. That is why I suggested the 770 and there is no reason to be so rude since we are all in this topic to help people.

Also more vram is needed when games become more intensive and store more textures on the vram. He and I only used BF4 as an example since it is one of the more modern games out there.

Hey Andross64,

Looking over this build I check for compatibility problems. I didn't find any, and the 770 will easily be able to handle any game on 60+ fps on ultra. I would suggest using that extra 100$ to get a 770 with 4gb of VRAM instead of the 2gb you have now. Anyways hopefully I helped and good luck on your build!

The 780 and the 770 4gb are no different in a sense. I suggested the 4gb of Ram since he mentioned playing BF4 which takes really large texture files and stores them on VRAM. It allows better running of the game. Also him having extra ram gives him more options in the future since he could upgrade to another monitor if he needed/wanted to. Also VRAM isn't only needed for multiple monitors. Anyways its his choice and he can decide.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

You both have valid points, as of right now the 770 with 2gb will be able to stomp on any game currently out and I am only using single monitor. I was more using BF4 as an example because its a good indicator of where games are headed(new consoles all have 4gb and/or more vram etc...) and I do want to future proof as much as I can. I'm also however stretching my budget very thin...

I don't want to buy a 3gb gtx780 if a 770 can give me 60fps+ on ultra in any game for the next 2 years, it would just be overkill.
I guess what it comes down is, when do you guys think the 770 will stop giving me 60 fps on ultra in these next gen games(I know its hard to speculate as these games aren't out yet but I suppose that's what I'm looking for, some good speculation)

The 770 and the 780 will always be neck in neck. They are used for different purposes since the 780 is more of a power house and the 770 is a speed demon. However I think a 4gb 770 will be able to run any game 60+ fps for at least the next 3-4 years. Unless a massive breakthrough comes or you decide to run a higher performance setup. In the end its your choice but either will work amazingly.

More VRAM is mostly needing when dealing with higher resolutions.
BF4's texture back is not "large" by any means, that it require more than 2GB to run smoothly.

Please tell me you are kidding.
780 will win 9/10 times, how is that neck in neck?
They arent used for different thing, please where are you getting this information from?

How is my information incorrect? You haven't provided any help or corrections to my "false information." So you can somewhat understand why I am defending myself. I know the 780 out performs the 770 but it isn't the best for someone's wallet.

Now, that it weird to say. I would understand it if it was 780 vs a r9 290.
The only thing I can see the 770 have is faster clockspeed(not devastating) and memory speed(can be helpful at some applications, not a whole lot).
Now a 780 have more cores(doesn't affect gaming by that much), higher Texture Fill Rate, wider memory interface and a higher memory bandwidth.

Now please state why someone would choose 770 over a 780(performance wise).

well he specifically said he was NOT talking performance-wise he was factoring my budget, which is reasonable considering Ive stated that Im stretching my budget pretty thin.

come on man he said it like twice in 2 different posts...

I give up on this thread it is pointless to continue arguing with you. I know you're right about the 770 and 780 performance wise. I said multiple times I was going for the better performance per dollar ratio which is what the asker needs. I was just trying to help out Andross64.
