Hey guys,
I have a 44 months old PC.
Memory is G Skill 2X2GB 1600 running at 1333.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

PC Config:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE C3(125W) @ 3.4GHz
MB: MSI 790 GX G65
GPU Onboard HD 3300
OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Since a few months, I have been getting frequent BSODs and app crashes, especially browsers.
I ran memtest 86+. Got around 100 errors or so. Then one day, I ran the sticks individually, got some errors. Then I cleaned the slots and ran the sticks individually in all the 4 slots. I didn't get any error. App crashes also reduced in frequency. But the frequency kept increasing gradually and the app crashes have become frequent again.
The dust buildup isn't unusual or anything. It's very less. In fact, it is so less that my PII X4 965 BE @ 3.4GHz runs around 30C at idle on stock cooler. I'm not sure why the results are inconsistent. But I'm sure it isn't just because of the dust.
BTW, My motherboard was in the list of tested motherboards for this particular memory kit model.

Anyway, here are my questions,
1. The memory is running at default settings (1333, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V). But I'll try out manual configuration before sending out for RMA. So, please provide the settings that I should use for AMD(above mentioned PC config)
2. Is there any chance of damaged motherboard? How to find out if memory or mobo is damaged?

Please help. Let me know if any more info is needed. TIA.

I ran multiple tests with multiple patterns. I ran,

-10 + hours with both sticks = Errors (Image)
-10+ hours with single stick = Errors (Image)
-Less than an hour with single stick = Errors (Image)
-About an hour with single stick = No errors (Image)

One thing I've noticed is, if at all I get an error, I get it within the first minute and only before pass 2 . I don't seem to get any error after pass 2. But I get error most of the time.

When I get errors with 2 sticks in, the errors are always in the 2228-2229 MB range.
With one stick, it is in 1114 MB range.

Yesterday I ran Memtest 86 instead of 86 +. Here's the result.

Hey,
cant really help you with you problem,
but I pretty much have the same thing happening. :p

Had 2x4GB Ripjaws 1333Mhz in my ASUS ROG
and changed to 4x4GB Ripjaws 1666Mhz which ran in another PC.

With only the two 1333mhz my pc runs fine, but with the 1666Mhz he gets Bsods. :(

I checked with WinMemtest: got errors imediately checked later again: no errors, and some other time got some again..
ran memtest86+ for day no error.
checked them one by one: no error

Crazy right? Never had that.

I have full guarantee with the shop that I bought them at, will see what they tell me,
but pretty annoying.
If you find anything make sure to tell! :)

Regards

the spec for your memory is not (1333, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V)
it is 9-9-9-24-2N

The 2N indicates that your memory requires two command cycles not 1 command cycle which I would venture it what your motherboard has set.
some times it is indicated as 2T .

You will want to confirm you have the correct command memory setting on your motherboard memory setting or you will get memory errors

It looks like it has been set to 1T.
I have attached screenshots of CPU-Z. Please look into it and let me know the changes need to be made.

Does the data marked in red in the below image indicate the actual specifications of my RAM?

I set the values specified in the SPD column manually. After that, my browsers haven't crashed. I played GTA IV for more than 15 minutes. It didn't crash. Earlier, it used to crash within 2 minutes of driving around.
I'll run memtest through out the night, use the PC for a few days and report back here.

Have you set all the values specified by the manufacturer manually?
If not, try doing what I did and check once.

I ran memtest for about 8.5 hours yesterday night(9 passes). Didn't get any errors. Hopefully this has fixed everything. I'll see how it goes for about a week and report back the final outcome. Thanks johnbl.

You're welcome. Please post your outcome after you try it:)
