I am very frustrated atm. I (with the help of my dad) am looking for a high end card that is around $500-$580. Don't worry Im not that spoiled as I am going to help pay. I can't decide whether we should get the r9 290 or the Gtx 780. I don't really see myself playing at 4k resolutions but 1440p seems reasonable. If anyone hopefully not fanboys could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey

Some facts that your dad might use!
290 is good in Sony Vegas / 780 is good in After Effects

:)

The best 780 is lightning, that one is just the king of the throne!
The best from 290 is windforce by gigabyte, great cooling and the finally it can use it's full potential!

Also it's newer than 780 :), getting it would not be a bad choise! But I still must agree with my mate above, 780 is the best choise

r9 290 is a good card, temps and reference cooler would incline me to the 780 though. I recently purchased the EVGA ACX SC GTX 780 and I cant say enough good things about it. EVGA is hands down the best nVidia card manufacturer.

I'd go ASUS or Sapphire if youre set on the r9 290...just my 2 cents

PS: Cheapest r9 290 im seeing on new egg is 579.99...where you can get a 780 for 499.99. FYI

Thanks guys really awesome to get feedback. I have been looking at the 780 for a while. However my dad says the r9 290 is the best bang for the buck. I have also seen benchmarks with some with the 780 ahead and others with the r9 290 ahead. So the 780 it is?
