So a friend of mine has proposed a straight swap for my I5 4440 and asus b85m-g mobo for his fx 6300 and a cheaper mobo with only two ram slots, The day i bought my i5 i have been thinking about other cpu options and now that i have this oppurtunity should i take it, or ask for money aswell? thanks.

No way, the 6300 is a good budget CPU but the i5 smokes it in most applications

Are you sure he's your friend? sounds like he's trying to con you lol

(Since you mentioned he has a cheaper mobo, it's most likely a cheap 760G mobo which leaves you pretty much no room for overclocking or an upgrade in the future too)

Would the fx 6300 perform any better if it was greatly overclocked?

What would be a good gpu pair for my cpu? Im thinking a gtx 760 or r9 270x?

get the best gpu you can afford. your i5 will be able to drive any single gpu on the market and should be enough for any dual gpu set up as well (although it is more of a hassle than it is worth). the 760 would be better than the 270x and I'd recommend staying away from the currently overpriced R9s. If you can afford a 770 that would be great, if not the 760 is a fantastic card.
