I'm looking to upgrade my powersupply on my Gateway DX4840-15c, but I'm not sure if it will fit, or if it will supply enough power.

This is my first time, so I would like some help. The power supply I'm looking at has a fan that is mounted on the top, but my current one has a fan at the rear of the power supply, and with my case, I'm not sure if it will work correctly.

I've found this online, but it does not look very reliable.

I'm looking towards a Corsair CX500, a mainstream PSU, but because the fan is at the top, I'm not sure if it will work, because I can't have the fan directly touching the top of my case, where there is no open holes. My powersupply is also mounted at the top left of my case, so theres that.

This might actually be really stupid, but I need some help. Thanks!

Not stupid - With ATX PSU's the fan can be turned up or downside. The best way with a top mounted
PSU such as yours is to mount it with the fan facing down. It's an intake fan and will blow the hot air it takes in out the back.

The cx500 is more than you need, but will allow you to add a mid range video card down the line if that's your goal.
If you're not going to adding a Vid Card then the 500 is way more than you need. Any good quality 380 - 430 would be more than enough.

I'm looking to add in possibly either any one of these cards:

GTX 650TI, 650TI Boost, 660, 660TI, HD 7790, 7850, 7870.

Will a 500W power supply work for some if any of these cards?

Yes - a good quality 500w is enough for any of those cards you list. Get the strongest
GPU you can afford, otherwise you will always 2nd guess yourself afterwards.
