When trying to reboot the laptop the computer says cheaking medie (fail). How to get out of this?

My computer will come up to the Dell screen.. and right after a screen will come up saying "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine." I press F1.. Moments later the screen will say checking media.. then checking media (failed).. I go through this process all the time and can never find a way to get the computer to normal.
I have tried to restart the computer and this does not work either. The computer is not even a year old.. My boyfriend and I both do not know how to fix this problem.

if its under a year old i would expect it to be under warranty.unless the warranty depot is prohibitively far away i would take advantage of the warranty.did you by any chance drop the laptop (doesnt have to be a real big bump)?if you can open it up and unplug the hard drive and plug it back in you could see if that works.if you dont feel real comfortable doing this send it for warranty.be very careful what you do in any case as you dont want to void the warranty.
