Please can someone help, I just installed a new CPU (AMD FX8320) and a new graphics card (XFX AMD7970) and I wanted to now if a 500 watt PSU is enough to keep it running. The reason is because after I installed my new CPU my computer screen started going black after it Says starting windows. The numlock light flashes after I press any key on the keyboard.
MOBO: msi 760gm-p23
Please can someone help.
Thank you.

I would try a new board first. You should have just barely enough power. Don't OC anything. New PSU as you get money. Your board only supports max 95W CPUs and yours is 125W. Hence the black screen on startup.

Davcon ? If the 7970 draws 40A and run on 12V power you think it really uses 480W? It's a 250W card. Add in another 125W for his CPU and we are up to 375W. Probably around 425W total system draw unless he has other things in there that aren't common. This is pretty much the max for the CX500. I'm a bit surprised it has an issue. Doing the math looking at it from newegg is has 38A, or 456W on the 12V rail.

I find it more likely that your CPU isn't supported. Here is the CPU support list for your board.

Notice that the 8320 isn't on the list, and the FX CPUs that are there are all 90W or less. My guess is you need at the very least a bios update, but I'm pretty sure your board (760?!) can't handle that CPU.

Which motherboard would you recommend for gaming?
