I'm looking to upgrade my PC for gaming purposes, as well as for everyday things, and am decided on these two because of budget (still need the motherboard and accompanying RAM). Which will run games better? Why would you choose one over the other? THANKS!!!

Solution
The intel 3570k is vastly superior if you have a graphics card. With integrated graphics the a10 is better. I would never choose integrated graphics it would have to be forced upon me. You will want a graphics card. The a10 would also perform much better with a graphics card than the integrated graphics it comes with. Amd 7770 is about 80 bucks right now that's the best cheap card. if you can find an 7790 there are ~100 but they are hard to find. nvidia 660ti is about 150 (130 after rebate) it seems like a good buy. A 7850 would be great but new egg is out of stock. Bit coin miners have made the AMD cards pricey this week as most of them are about 50 dollars higher than last week. The R7 series is overpriced...

Avoid the 240 it's worse than the a10's IGPU. You could try crossfiring a 250 with the a10 but no one has every got much out of it. 260x is a 7790 with a 30 dollar premium. The I5 with a 7770 or better with get you 30% faster graphics than the a10 with the same 7770. An I3 with a 7770 would be better for gaming than an a10 with a 7770 for 20 dollars less. But the a10 MAY before better on future games that run many threads. With current games the I3 will not bottle neck your video card as much as an a10.

If you have a 20 inch LCD (1680 x 1050) a 7770 will play most games at it's native res on high. If you have a 24" LCD (1920 x 1080) a 7790 will play most games on high details. a 7850 will future proof you a bit and make things smoother, you could play most games without tweaking the details.

as a CPU the i5 DESTROYS the APU. but the intel has crap integrated graphics which is useless for gaming, while the A10-6800 has a gpu that's capable of at least *light-med* gaming. if you are using a dedicated GPU anyways, then go i5. If you are on a real tight budget and cant afford a CPU and a GPU, then youd look to an APU as an option.

Thanks for the input everyone! It's just that I have an AMD Radeon HD 6570 graphics card and I heard that if you pair it with an A10 APU, you'd boost your graphics up.

dual graphics as it is known isn't really all that great. it is hit or miss really. Even when it works, it still suffers from micro-stuttering.the i5 will still give better and more consistent performance.

I finally decided on my new CPU. I was looking at the I3 4330 really seriously then went momentarily nuts and bought a Xeon 1230v2 for $220 with a promocode. No Haswell for me =P. You think it'll be faster than my q6600?

That chip is lightyears ahead of your Q6600. Even a Sandy i3 is faster than that old chip.

Right now, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93(?)GHz CPU, an MSI G31TM-P21 Motherboard and about 2 sticks of 2 GB RAM.

I'm deciding between the A10 and the i5 for CPU, maybe another msi motherboard if i find a good one. I don't plan on playing games like Far Cry 3 or Crysis games with this PC, though. Probably the most intense game I'll play is Assassins Creed IV. As for GPU upgrade, I might buy an R7 260 just to play some more modern games a bit better for the moment

Get the 260x for 10 dollars more. You will be happy with the decision. The 260x will let you play at 1080p quite smoothly. The A10 would about 2x as fast as your e7500 if not more. The I5 would 2x as fast as the A10. Make sure your video card has 2 gigs or ram and its ddr5.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150688 260x with 2 games for $129 898 1080p high detail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121841 260 with no games for $140 768 1080p medium detail

Don't get me wrong the R260 is a good performer it's 5 or 10% faster than my current card, a 7770 but with 1920 x 1080 resolution basically the standard for a monitor now it's not quite good enough for high def gaming and the 260x is. A 7770 is 20 dollars cheaper and the 260x is virtually the same price and often cheaper than the 260.

It will boost your graphics up from awful to miserable and hybrid crossfire is a work in progress. The cards mention will outperform the hybrid xfire with the a10 and the 6570.

Nvida 650ti boost would the best if you can find one. Oddly, A10's run better with Nvidia Cards and Intels Run better with AMD cards. But the difference is too small to notice.
