Two days ago, I ran CCleaner and deleted what was available. I didn’t notice the changes immediately but yesterday I began to notice that my computer’s boot up had slow icons refresh rate on the desktop and a folder on my desktop containing programs like CCleaner, CPUID HWmonitor, PC Wizard 2013, Perfect Installer and TechPowerUp GPU-Z had shortcuts which were all changed to the icon when windows does not know which program to be used for opening. These shortcut icons can still be used like normal although they changed.

I did a system restore which helped with the slow desktop refresh icon rate but those icons in my folder are still looking like unknown. I tried installing CCleaner again and the shortcuts and icons have changed back to normal but for the rest of the programs in that folder nothing’s changed and I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have also created a registry back up which was created before I ran CCleaner and I’ve restored it with no changes.

Please guys figure what’s wrong with my computer. I really need your help. My computer is only 2 months old :-(

An update to my previous post, after I shut down my computer and turn it on the next day, the CCleaner icon has also changed back to unknown in the same folder. Also I tried creating a new folder and placing in a known(normal) icon for Perfect Installer after uninstalling and re-installing and the normal icon automatically changes to be unknown. Please help!!!

Hi guys, I think that I may have found a solution to this problem although I don't know if it's permanent but it seems to be the only thing that worked so if anyone experiences such a problem you could try this too. I booted up my computer in safe mode using msconfig since F8 doesn't work on my computer for some unknown reasons. While the computer boots up in safe mode, all the unknown program icons have become their usual program icons. I open msconfig again and disabled booting up in safe mode then restarted. When I restarted, all the programs icons has been changed back to their usual icons just like when I was booting up in safe mode. I hope this helps anyonne out there who may be having this problem.
