Grub loader doesn't work server finds no OS. I've tried several Debian based distros but no luck. Windows loader works but I'm no longer using windows, but tested Windows 7 and 8 and they both load. But I want to make the full switch to Linux but Grub hates me.

Solution
I don't understand. You say "No OS installed now" but then you say you installed Linux and get the error after restart. Which is it? Have you gone through the installation of one version of Linux or multiple ones?

It sounds like you have installed Linux. However, after installation it would be unusual to see GRUB--you would usually only see the GRUB screen if you were dual booting with Windows or multiple Linux distros. Sometimes you will see GRUB or a black screen due to a problem with UEFI. If you have a newer computer with UEFI you may need to go into your BIOS and set secure boot to "disabled" or install Linux in EFI mode.

No OS installed now. No error when installing Linux and Grub it just says no OS was found after initial restart after install. I've tried Debian three or four times, Ubuntu etc.

Are you seeing something like the GRUB screen toward the bottom in the section on secure boot?

I mean after no luck with grub and Linux I used the Windows OS disk to reformat HDD. Til I thought of what OS to try next. I have installed several to test but wiped the HDD clean after no luck with Linux.

Did you mean to mark this as solved? Did disabling secure boot do the trick? Your last post seems to indicate otherwise. I do not understand how you are getting to GRUB if the HDD is clean and Linux is no longer installed. Are you trying to boot off a USB stick or CD?

All the promising info I've got between here and the rest of the net since yesterday points to the UEFI issue so I figure that must be it. So I clicked it as the answer since everything is leading to that. Sounds like the most logical answer. I won't have a chance to test if for a while but that sounds like it'll work.
