Is it ok to cool the top and the bottom of the gpu with heatsinks?

Why is there only one heatsink on the top of the GPU? Can't I just make a copper heatsink and attach it the the bottom and install another fan on it? I noticed there's some exposed (resistors? They look like tiny little beds) on the bottom so I'm not sure if attaching a metal to that would short-circuit my gpu. If it does, can't I just add a non-conductive thermal pad and then attach my heatsink?

it will most likely cause short circuits, you can direct a fan over it if you want, it will help cool it also.

google this: spotCool. this is what i use to cool my south bridge.

Hello Cons29, thanks for the quick reply. Do non-conductive thermal pads not work either?

it might, though i have not tried anything like that. GPU's are durable enough against these things. be careful though. gpu's are not cheap :)

Well I tried it, seems to work pretty well. Used 5 cm x 20 cm copper shim (with heatsinks of course) under the gpu and lowered temps by 10 C :)
