high pitched whining sound.

Maybe unlike some people, I like a quiet pc.
Everything in my pc is pretty quiet except for a single high pitched whining sound. I'm not really sure what it is? it's not my case fans and it can't be my psu. (gs600, only turns on the fan when needed) could be the hard drive or the cpu cooler or the cpu. Any way I can find out what exactly is making the noise and how to fix it?

Solution
Yeah it's the PSU this is called coil whine and it happens when a capacitor on the PSU 5V rail is vibrating thus producing the noise, if it bothers you too much you can RMA it but it's not bad for the PSU or your PC just a disturbance

Are you sure it's the psu? I think the sound is coming from the top of my case with the psu down the bottom

I'm nearly 100% sure it is the PSU

Maybe your right, just turned off my pc and turned the switch on the back of the psu to off. then turned it back on and no noise. The sound is on and off. It's just that RMA is a big pain to go out and get another. I guess if it works then I can live with it

Do not RMA your psu. While I am very sure its your problem I have owned various Corsair psus and every one of them had coil whine to some extent so its likely that your new one will too. But they are also some of my favorite psus so that why I just live with it
