Windows xp will not start.

My windows xp desktop computer. Will not work properly.. When I turn it on, the sony vaio sign is all chopped up.. Then it goes to a different screen that displays a bunch of U's.. You can kind of see what's behind the distortion after a bit.. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Assuming you mean pounds and feel up to building one yourself: Have a look at this, although this would not include an OS. (You could save a bit of money by using your existing hard drive rather than buying a new one)

I've been trying to restore to factory default. But I cannot seem to see what I am looking at on the screen.. Do you think if I had the windows xp cd that came with it, it might work?

Yes it looks just like that. I took it into geek squad, and they said it would need a new motherboard and it would cost me more than buying a new one. I honestly am trying to find a good gaming tower for cheap, just to run world of Warcraft..
