So I noticed tht when I had a monitor hooked up through vga cable to VGA port I could get 1366x768 but all a sudden I changed that to a VGA cable through a Hemingway active converter and I seem to be getting the option to go up to 1980 by something like 1250 and I was wondering do VGA dvi Hdmi and display port have different resolution limits ?

VGA goes up to something like 2048x1536.
DVI-D Single Link is up to 1920x1200.
DVI-D Dual Link is up to 2560x1600.
HDMI depends on the version, but usually 2560x1600 or 4096x2160.
DisplayPort can run multiple monitors, but each up to something like 4096x2160.

Note that all of the above depend on refresh rate; if you drop it below 60Hz you can push more pixels.

Most likely the active converter wasn't correctly passing through the information about what the display could go up to.

What display? I think you'll find that the display itself can only do 1366x768.

well its like my college is getting its first computer upgrades for 4 years and all their doing is adding 2gd ram to each pc so i would not say the time for that level of tech has gone yet
