So I have a Hp p7-1517cb pc. I realize that is not ideal for gaming at all but at the time I was not very tech-savvy and it was on sale so I bought it. Now one year later I want to upgrade this thing to play games on ultra 1080p and be future proof. Big goal for a kinda crappy pc. I have already upgraded the psu to 500 watt. I also want to get a r9 280x but Im going to wait a while because the bitcoin/litecoin craze has ruin the good pricing of the r9 280x. I also know that my apu/mobo is not the best and it will bottleneck any high end gpu. Im on a pretty tight budget so here are my 3 options.

a) Just get the r9 280x for now(even with bottleneck)
b) upgrade to a fx 8320 or fx 8350 and get the r9 280x later
c) sell parts and get a whole new pc

If the apu bottlenecks a little i would not mind but is it worth it? I wouldnt mind upgrading but it will take me a while to be able to get the parts with my budget. Or should i just sell my pc and build my own? I would like to hear you guys ideas and see what is the best thing to do. Thank you for your time!

It's not that it's a crappy machine, it wasn't meant to be a gaming machine.
DON"T upgrade the processor to those you mention, the Mother board doesn't support them.

Future proof never works.

What kind og performance are you looking for?

If you have only this PC, and you have the budget to build other new PC, then keep the HP for backup and buy or build the new one, because sometime the PC has problem you can do the test or something else on that PC.

If you don't like keep one for backup, then sell the parts if you can, then get the whole new one.

Thanks so much for your responses! Just out of curiosity how much would my apu bottleneck a high end card like a r9 280x or r9 290?
