small form factor budget graphics card

hey guys new to the forums i recently upgraded from the pc i made 5 years ago and bought a small form factor hp workstation its got an i3 quad core and 8gb ddr3 so all i need now is a good graphics card. it has a 240w psu so that's something to take into consideration. i have 2 pcie slots and i know it wont fit a normal gpu because i had to take the mount off my nvidia geforce 8400gs just to get it to fit in the case. i was looking at the nvidia gt 640 because im on a budget of under $100. i should also mention that i want to play dayz battlefield 3 record minecraft maybe some need for speed and a couple other light games at medium settings. will the gt 640 do that well? or should i get a different card? if so what card should i get?

You'd have to play at lower settings, but the 640 will be fine. There really isn't anything power for low-profile. You could also look at the 7750 series or the R7 250 from AMD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150682

that power supply may have to be upgraded to get any significant card I would think, but I would wait for some others to chime in.

PSU should be ok. Below link shows 170w total system power draw at load, and that includes an overclocked i7-4960x.

ok how would i change my power supply? it is a special hp one and other small form factor power supplies would not fit right

You wouldn't need to change it, you'll be fine with it.

If it's low profile and comes with the low profile adapter it should work just fine.

That looks typical low-profile to me, should fit just fine.

And the 7570 is a worse card, and that's stupid expensive lol
