Hi guys

I'm going to be changing cases from my old Antec 300 over to a Fractal Design Define R4 and i've decided to also change motherboards from my old M5A97 to one of the above. I obviously dont want to be wasting money on something that doesn't offer anything more than the other. I prefer the aesthetics of the Gigabyte but been told that the ASUS is better, I won't be OC'ing anything (please dont ask why, i just dont feel comfortable with it).
The Gigabyte is nearly £30 cheaper than the Sabertooth.
Thanks guys!

I don't i know if its better since i've never used the gigabyte one but i own sabertooth 990fx and have it in my gaming system and i absolutely love it. Just throwing it out there that asus is so confident in there sabertooth series that they slap a 5 year warranty behind it, which gigabyte only has 3 year warranty.

Is it honestly worth the extra £30 though? If i get the Gigabyte the overall price is under £200 if i go with the Sabertooth it bumps it up to about £230

In my honest opinion the extra 2 years is worth the $30....I felt it was well worth the price, and honestly i paid $200 for this board its been fluctuating between $180-200 recently. If it were me i'd get another one of these bad boys.

Its really about preference also. Goto newegg.com open a tab with the gigabyte one go to specifications tab then open another tab with the asus one goto specifications tab and compare the 2. Easier to do this side by side so i don't know if you have windows 7 but if you click a tab and drag it off the browser it opens its own browser then you can drag it all the way to the left to expand on the whole left side then do it again with the other tab and drag it to the right.

Processor: AMD 8350 @ 4.0 ghz | Motherboard - ASUS M5A97 | CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo | Graphics Card - MSI 560ti | Ram - Kingston HyperX 16gb DDR3 @ 1600mhz | Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1Tb | PSU - OCZ 700w ZT | Case - Antec 300, I want to change because my current motherboard doesnt support SLI, and in the future i would seriously consider getting two cards, plus id rather have the option to do so now. Instead of in the future thinking "i really would like to sli this card" but having to take everything out and putting a new mobo in, so id rather do the change over whilst im changing case. It's basically for future proofing.

My experience has been that if the motherboard works when I install it it will have no problems for the life of the board. So I don't worry about the warranty after installation. I would go for the less expensive board and use my money for the extra card.

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing, but I changed my mind and thought that i could hold out until the 800 series :) Plus i would never go any more than 2 cards so quad sli doesnt interest me in the slightest

But would the Gigabyte perform the same as the Sabretooth? I would only really be thinking of adding a couple more fans to the case, 2 gpu's at max and i would keep the CM 212 evo for cooling. I also wouldnt be OC'ing anything :)

If your stuck go with the cheapest one. I can't say weather its a bad deal or not because any motherboard $100 and up have to be quite good otherwise they would be charging $70 or less for it. But if you want a sure acceptable board stick with sabertooth you wont be dissapointed.

It's just that i quite like the aesthetics of the Gigabyte board.... plus im not sure if getting the Sabertooth will benefit me in any way.

■ Can't go wrong with it ;-) research some of its features I'm sure you'll find some that stand out to you. I know the fact that it uses "tuff" military grade compasitors really helped me make my decision! Check it out!

I went with the Sabertooth in the end :) it's a great looking motherboard, only problem at the minute is that my pc has slowed down.... A lot!! And I'm not sure why, but I've started a new thread to help with the issue.
