The last time I built a custom machine was probably 10 years ago - so I'm a little rusty. I'm a software guy now, so I don't really focus on the latest and greatest hardware. As long as I can compile it - I'm happy :) Anyways, I took a stab at it - mainly referencing posts here and looking for "deals". Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: Today or as soon as I've got some advice on my picks.

Budget Range: $1250-1500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Streaming and Recording, Photo/Video Editing, Work crap

Are you buying a monitor: Not yet. I have a couple I'm going to use in the interim.

Parts to Upgrade: Building from scratch. Everything is new!

Do you need to buy OS: No, I've got copies of both Win7 and Win8.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg and Micro Center (15 miles from work.)

Location: Kansas City, MO USA

Parts Preferences: Really not a fanboy in any way.. I have no preference.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Eventually perhaps, but not right now.

Your Monitor Resolution: N/A

Additional Comments: The look of the thing is not important. I'm not looking to enter some sort of contest for showing off cases. As long as it holds the parts, keeps it cool, and works - I'm good!

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: It's been 10+ years. I've got a laptop thats on its last leg, and since I no longer need a mobile gaming laptop - I figured building a PC would be the longterm, and most economical solution.

Actually really liked your build :) Kept with most of the same, but changed the PSU to be well able to handle SLI (goes with the red theme too, and cheaper) and through in a 780 but stayed under your $1,500. Just another option really, not much change :)

Thanks for the assistance - I'll debate jumping up to the 780! Going to start ordering pieces and see what Micro Center can do for me locally when I go to pick up my case.

Thanks again!
