I just built myself a new gaming/video editing PC, and it's been working fine for about a month. A couple of days ago, though, it started randomly locking up. The sound suddenly cuts out, and while I can still use my mouse/keyboard, nothing can be clicked on, opened, or closed. All the computer will let me do is ctrl-alt-del and show the context menu (but won't open Task Manager when I tell it to.) The only way to stop it is to do a hard reset, or, if I wait long enough (typically 1-2 minutes), the lockup will suddenly go away and I can control my PC again, and it instantly registers whatever clicks/keyboard hits I did during the lockup..It's not a temperature or power issue, as I've checked both and they're well within normal range (I'm not overclocking anything either.) All drivers are up to date and the Windows troubleshooter can't find any problems. Any idea what's going on or how to fix it?

Here's my system specs:
AMD FX 8350
ASUS M5A97LE R2.0
16GB DDR3 1866 G-Skill Ares
MSI R9 270X 2GB GDDR5
Sandisk 128GB SSD
Seagate 2TB Barracuda HDD
Raidmax Thunder V2 640W Power Supply
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit
