how do i get my desk top monitor out of sleep mode when its plugged into the laptop

so i have a monitor that keeps going into slep mode when i plug i into the laptop. the monitor light is green when unplugged but is amber when the code is in how can i fix this please help me

Is the monitor seen as a second monitor in Windows? If not, try a different video connection if you have another one to try. Try booting the laptop with the monitor already attached. There should be a hotkey to switch to the external monitor on the laptop, try that option as well.
