I'm relatively new to PC building, so my experience with graphics cards is limited. As the question states, my price range is $200-250. So far, I have bought this for my build:

Intel i5 3570k Ivy-Bridge
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155

Thank you for any help you can provide!!!!

Where are these cards in that price range? 770 starts at $300. I've never seen a 600 series cheaper than their 700 counter part, especially by that much.

Fair enough....

I will yield the 670/680 statement. You could still tap the GTX 660 3GB for that price range if you needed a multi-monitor setup though.

I swore I saw a GTX 770 at $289.00 during the Christmas sale. The GTX 760 is just a better buy though(price vs. performance).

Thank you both for your answers. Eventually, I will be setting up a dual monitor system, but for now just one. I'm thinking the 760 will be the one. Because I am a newbie at this stuff, I am wondering what separates the good graphics cards from the bad ones, in terms of looking at the specs. Do you know of any "graphics cards for dummies" articles?

Do you mean as far as differentiating from one 760 to the next? or comparing completely different GPUs.

Comparing completely different GPU's, as in the GTX 760 to the Radeon HD 7870. Sorry, I should've been more specific.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-car... this is a simple way of doing it.

It's difficult to straight up compare amd vs nvidia as they build their chips differently. You mostly have to rely on benchmarks and real world testing. Also price is a pretty good indicator as they have been selling these cards for a long time and know where to place their cards. There are good bargains though every now and then, like when the 280x was $300.
