Hello. I Have a dell inspiron 560 desktop. This morning i woke up and tried booting it but even though it seemed working, the monitor wouldn't show anything. I triple checked everything and tried another monitor but nothing worked. Then i checked online to find a solution and tried clearing CMOS through the battery but after putting the battery back in and booting (which didn't fix the monitor issue) it started making an increasing fan noise as if it was overloading which made the pc shut down and take all lights out aswell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Solution
Fan noise:
The problem may be due to the CPU FAN control no longer being enabled, however your main problem is more serious and needs to be investigated first. If fan noise after a CMOS CLEAR was your ONLY problem the following would likely fix it:

1. Boot into the BIOS (DEL or F2 as applicable)
2. Find the Fan Control section and enable fan control.

There is also Windows software as well for controlling CPU fans but you can't even boot to Windows.

*Again though, that may not be your exact problem because obviously there is something more serious going on here. Problems you may have:
a) defective motherboard
b) defective Power Supply
c) other

When a computer won't show anything on any monitor, then starts and crashes it's a pretty serious HARDWARE problem. Troubleshooting usually involves swapping parts. The Power Supply is one of the easiest to swap but may not be the problem. If it's the Motherboard, that's a big hassle.

I'm also not certain of your WARRANTY situation, but if you want help then start a thread specifically for troubleshooting your PC instead of this one so there's no confusion. If you want MY help, you'd have to provide a LINK here to it.

It seemed to be running as usual except for the monitor BEFORE i did the CMOS clear. the fan crash started after the clear. I also forgot to say that the led indicator on the case flashes as standby at all times and only goes off when i remove the cable from the wall.

Power supply or, most likely, motherboard.

Go to ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-560_Setup%20Guide_en-us.pdf and go to page 26 of the manual

If the power light is solid amber —
The computer is in sleep or standby state.
• Press a key on the keyboard, move the connected mouse, or press the power button to resume normal operation.
There may be a problem with either the
• system board or the power supply. For assistance, contact Dell (see “Contacting Dell” on page 55).
If the power light is blinking amber — There may be a problem with the system board.

So, it looks like your PC is no more, I hate to be the bearer of a bad news.

Humor me.

OP has no control over PC and no monitor, so advising to go into BIOS is the JOKE. Also, it would be nice to know that Dell DOES NOT provide any hardware fan control in BIOS on all Inspirons, maybe Alienware, but nothing on cheap model lines!

Regarding warranty - Inspiron 560 is from around 2009-2010, so all warranties already expired long time ago.

All it takes to troubleshoot is to read manual, if more help needed, go to Dell Community and ask there - no one else can help better than Dell users in this situation.
