I am thinking about getting the 1440p gaming monitor over a 1080p monitor for looking better than 1080p. I am worried that since 2560x1440p resolution is a high resolution and you need some hefty graphics power to run games like bf4 and Crysis 3 on high settings and that can get expensive. I have a geforce gtx 660 and a amd fx 6300 now. Obviously I will have to get a more powerful graphics card, but is it worth getting a 1440p monitor over a 1080p monitor if you cant always upgrade your graphics card to play demanding games on medium-high settings?

Solution
If you've never seen a monitor (not counting CRT monitors) running at a resolution that is not its native, DO NOT buy 1440p thinking you'll just run it on 1080p. If you're gonna run it at 1080p, buy a 1080p monitor.

Simple.
