clean install on new hard drive

i was told by dell to change the BOIS from ACHI to ATA and did just that but i cant figure out how to disable the disk cache option they spoke about.. is this necessary or are they making it complicated to get 129.00.. they said the hard drive instal was too technical but it ammounted to two screws and two plugs. im just a fisherman

Need some more details here. Start from the beginning. You have a new hard-drive, how are you trying to install Windows? Dell's restore disks or a retail Windows 7 disk? What happens when you try to install Windows?

Changing the drive settings from ACHI to ATA should fix an error about no drive being found during setup, is that what you are trying to do? That should be the only thing you need to change unless you have a drive that is too large for the BIOS to see properly.
