I'm having trouble finding benches that compare properly and can only find articles from the Novemberish area, and at that time the stock versions were comparable in price. But now the Stock R9 290 is 100$ more than the Classified 770. What do you guys think?

More about : 290 evga gtx 770 4gb

The r9 290 is a gtx 780 counterpart, the 770 is closer to the 280x.

Hi - might not be the most direct/thorough comparison, but you'll get a good reference:

it depends on your needs? are you just gaming on a single monitor at 1080?
if so then the answer is no it is NOT worth a extra $150
if you are planning on going to 2K resolutions or use multiple monitors then the answer is yes

This is what I've been looking at, and it seems that the r9 290 isn't much better at all. Obviously it's silly to base an opinion off of one bench so if you guys have any others that would help out.

I found out the hard way that going by bench tests is not always going to help you pick a GPU
what are you going to be doing the most with it?

depends on the game if you play games like metro, bf4 etc 290, a 770 is close to the 280x/ 7970 and on ultra you will get about 60 fps average with some lower dips

I already have "it" being a EVGA GTX 770 4GB SC, just wondering how it stacks up against other cards is all. I was looking at some random stuff and was wondering how they could justify in some cases almost 250$ more for the 290. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+R9...

Hi - The new AMD R9's are overpriced relative to performance. The crypto-miners (litecoin, bitcoin, etc)
have snapped up so many 290x's & 290's that supply & demand has driven the prices way up.

The R9 290 was originally planned to be $399 list for a reference version, you can see where it's at.

I also forgot to clarify that I was attempting to find a gaming comparison, I don't really care about how beast it is for mining.

My EVGA SC should perform a bit better than the stock 770 he's using though right?

For 1080 gaming your gtx 770 SC is a excellent card.
those others like the 290 and 780ti are more for guys that want to go 2K or use more monitors

Once again the 290 is a 780 counterpart....here is a heirarchy chart to better explain what cards should be compared

The main thing that would make me choose the GTX 780 over the 290 is temps.
the 290's run too hot and i have read too many issues with then, i cant say that for 780's

The explanation for the price difference, as it`s already said, it`s mining.

well the reference design was horrible which caused heat and throttling issues, the newer designs are much better and these cards are meant to stay around 80c.
