I have a xfx r7870, and a msi b75ma-p45. How would i use dual monitors to, could i use the 7870s HDMI and the motherboards DVI at the same time? Or use the mini DVI and the HDMI?

You can for sure connect to any of those 5 ports, that being said you can use as much as 5 monitors with that graphics card. And no, you can't use motherboard and GPU at the same time. You connect all of your monitors to the GPU.

Run both monitors off the connections from your card. that simple.

yes but heres the thing, i want HDMI rather than a mini DVI, so would a mini DVI to a HDMI work?

The only difference between DVI and HMDI it's that DVI does not carry audio whereas HDMI does. Now, they're both digital so it will work. I use two HDMI to DVI cables to run both of my monitors.

Actually you can use the igpu off the mobo at the same time but let's not complicate things. You don't have mini dvi, those are mini dp.

yep. just plug one monitor into HDMI and one into DVI (same as HDMI without the audio and is not mini DP).
