Gtx 770/ Gtx 780 Overkill for HDMI?

Hi, so I've been told that as I'll only be using a HDMI monitor and not 4k, getting a Gtx 770 or Gtx 780 would be overkill and I wouldn't be able to fully utilize the cards. But I was thinking that the cards should be able to last me for at least 3 years even if I have to play with low settings.

Do you guys think it's overkill?

Getting a 770 and saving some money to upgrade in the future is your best option, its a tad bit overkill at 1920x1080, but it may not be enough for ultra/high in 3 years time, same with 780s. Save some money with the 770 and upgrade in a few years.
