Hello, I am very new to Hackintosh. I am trying to dual boot Windows 8.1 and OS X (on the same HDD). Sadly, however, I have encountered many problems. I do have a Mac OS X Snow Leopard retail DVD. I am using a slightly modified Dell Vostro 400 (mods: extra 2 GB ram stick, Asus ENGTX550Ti graphics). I originally started with OSX86 and that eventually got Mac installed, but after the update was installed, the screen with the Apple logo hanged. iBoot gets me nowhere. I boot from the iBoot disk, switch it with the OS X DVD, press F5, and boot to Mac OS X. The screen with the logo is there for a while then a 'no' symbol appears over the logo. It then hangs there. The several guides I've referred to do not help. I believe some of the problem is that I cannot set 3 of the 4 BIOS settings I am instructed to (out dated BIOS maybe; I can set the first boot device to CDROM, but SATA mode is restricted to either IDE or RAID. Again, I am very new to Hackintosh. I just want to get help with these problems and know if there's still hope for this.

Thank you very much for reading.

I just finished reinstalling it and then restarted to finish installing the update, now it's stuck at "[ PCI configuration begin ]" in the console.

Your best bet is trying to find a BIOS for your specific board. People edit these files that make it so by default mac will boot off of them
