So I've been having some problems with my ASUS GTX 770s lately.
First off when I've randomly gotten a gray screen 3 times. Talked to ASUS support and couldn't really get any help besides re socket the gpus which I did.

I've used FurMark to stress test each card by itself and I've already tested while they were in each others previous slot. They didn't gray screen by themselves so I thought I would plug them back in together in SLI mode and test.

But when I used FurMark i'm getting this high pitch beep or ring noise. I googled it and I've seen some say that I'm not getting enough power to the cards but I have made 100% sure I have power sockets placed in correctly and I'm running on a 1000 Watt SeaSonic PSU Platnium.

The cards are in SLI mode right now and not making a peep but as soon as I FurMark them one or maybe both of them are marking the noise, I've gotten down to the ground to see if I can pin point it and I can't tell if its both or what. And I've already pulled one out and tried replicating it one by one but no ringing/beep happens. It only happens when I have SLI mode enabled. I can literally go into the Nvidia control panel turn off SLI run FurMark and no noise happens, I just don't get it. I feel like because I'm running SLI the cards are working harder than if it was just one.

On a side note, earlier I was playing skyrim with no ENB and it didn't make a sound but then when I enabled the ENB that's when the beep/ring first started. And it could be replicated by using FurMark. So it seems to have something to do with a overwhelming load?

Also I had these card in SLI for a whole month and the beep/ring only started happening after I started pulling them in and out to test for the gray screen thing.

To much text sorry.
SLI is just more hassle then its worth, totally getting one really powerful card next time instead.
My questions I guess are. What does a gray screen usually mean and what is this loud noise I'm hearing now.

Here is my Dxdiag duno if it is needed.

Solution
Ok. if each one runs seperately fine, it is a problem with your motherboard. simple as that..the cards are perfectly fine and your motherboard just wasnt up to handling the extra power and data flow.

which motherboard do you have by the way? it may be as simple as the board just wasnt meant to handle that powerful of sli

This wasn't happening a week ago. And I'm talking about a long high pitch noise, this would mean the gpus are faulty. These things haven't been touched over clocking wise, so why should I have to clock them back for them to work?

But I never thought about it being the motherboard since it sounded like it was coming from the GPUs. I did find it weird that it only happens in SLI mode.

As of another development, I went into the Nvidia control panel and turned off SLI and its still doing the loud pitch thing, however I shut it down and flipped the bridge around. It still rings when its in SLI mode but when I turned it off this time it doesn't ring.

I just don't get why this stuff is happening all the sudden, its hard to believe these cards are bad so maybe it is the motherboard but why all the sudden. I wear a anti static bracelet when I switch parts out, the PSU is brand new along with the video cards.

And the motherboard is only like a year old tops. Plus I don't even overclock anything. I feel like if I have to throttle back anything then what was the point in buying this set of particular equipment anyways.?

The thing I'm not understanding is, when I used one card and use the FurMark and or play game is the card / motherboard or w/e not making any noise then? Isn't SLI supposed to relieve a little bit of the load on the master card? Instead it feels like when I SLI it's working twice as hard.

Coil whine is something that typically gets worse over time, and is actually a RMA'able thing if it gets loud enough. SLI does relieve load on the cards, but increases data flow on the motherboard. My diagnosis is coil whine from the motherboard. Honestly some motherboards just DO have coil whine, while some have it occasionally and then there are the motherboards that are good for not having it. You really just need to read reviews.

So my dad got home and corrected me apparently this thing that's going off is a peizo alarm? And since it is only happening when I put the SLI bridge on that he thinks the bridge is some how shorting the cards and or board and thats why the peizo alarm is going off.

So I guess ill rephrase my question. Does a constant peizo alarm mean a particular thing and is there a way to fix it?

like i said, gotta be able to hear it for myself to tell XD but you can increase the voltages on (can't remember what) but it helps for sli. Look it up and see what it is, currently doing midterm cramming so don't have time to scour the interwebs for you

Well I looked up a coil whine cause I wasn't sure what you were talking about and then I looked up the peizo alarm and it sounds exactly like a peizo alarm.
I've had coil whines before, they were annoying but could be muffled with a good case. But this is definitely a peizo alarm and sure enough searching peizo alarm and my particular MB nothing came up.
Btw, thanks you are responding really fast and your being very helpful. I've been bouncing what you are saying off my dad which we are using to trouble shoot lots of different possiblities.

So the gray screen that has been showing up popped up earlier and I just let it stay on for a bit and this time it reset itself and went back to the desktop and said that the drivers have failed and that windows would restart them. So I'm in the process re installing drivers after using a driver cleaning program.

Still can't find any reason why I'm getting that peizo audioable alarm, the connectors are correctly plugged in.
However I was curious the current PSU i'm using is a Seasoninc Plat 1000 Watt. It has this hybrid tech button on it that sort puts it in power save mode when I'm not doing anything. Think I should turn that off and try messing with things?

I will give that a whirl TY. As for a update. I've been on the phone and in IM chats with ASUS support all day and to no avail have they really been able to help me. They have just further proven what I thought might be going on. The peizio buzzer that comes off the board has one of three meanings.
It is either bad memory , bad gpu, bad motherboard....I mean seriously no duh....but considering my circumstances I can pretty much rule out memory.
They wont RMA my graphics cards unless I test the graphics cards in SLI mode on another motherboard, I thought it was convenient that they picked the only option I really couldn't do.
I'm really not liking ASUS as a company atm and I will probably never buy their equipment again. Specially with the poor un knowledgeable support they have working there.
My only hope is to see if my friend will let me hook my cards up to his board and test them. Either they will work fine and I have to buy a new motherboard, maybe I screwed up while re socketing and fried something or maybe the cards are bad and they fried something.
Maybe they will scream again and I can RMA them.
Either or SLI was a poor decision that I will not be making again.

And honestly what do you expect? the problem is more than likely the motherboard and not the gpu's. There is no way for them to know this, and if you don't test it on another board, then you could be costing them money for nothing if you sent in perfectly good cards..

I would not use this as a reason to not buy asus products. their products are some of the best and compared to some companies they actually have really good support. You just have a case where they have to be sure so as to not waste money on their end sending you new cards, only to find that the problem was with your motherboard.

The motherboard is also ASUS.
That is why I was expecting them to know more. And if you put something on the motherboard as vague as a peizio buzzer as a indicator and you can't tell me what the buzzer really means with both products are from the same company that's when I have a problem with their support and troubleshooting.
It just comes down to passing the problem onto someone else because they actually have no idea what the problem is.
And what I kept telling them is I just don't get how I could run these cards perfectly fine for almost 2 months then run into a problem with their kernel drivers failing and then now supposedly the board is the problem.
And I can run each card separately with no problem under extreme load without a peep from the peizio.
It only seems to go off after I slap on the sli bridge and enable the sli mode.
Its just not promising when I have an overkill PSU with both the motherboard and graphics cards coming from the same company and things don't work as intended and then I'm told I should clock back on the cards which were OCed by them or this and that.
I can only do so much, hell maybe the cards were faulty and fried my MB who knows anymore or maybe the tabs for the SLI bridge are messed up, there are just to many variables.
This is just a bad representation of ASUS.

Ok. if each one runs seperately fine, it is a problem with your motherboard. simple as that..the cards are perfectly fine and your motherboard just wasnt up to handling the extra power and data flow.

which motherboard do you have by the way? it may be as simple as the board just wasnt meant to handle that powerful of sli

I'm running a ASUS P8 Z77-V LK. It was labeled specifically as a SLI ready board.

I'm in the process of buying a new motherboard, tower, and hybrid SSHD so I will definitely be able to tell you exactly what the problem is in a week or so. I'll update around that time, for now i'm stuck running the one. And thank you again Brantyn for all the help. I'll look into asrock.
