These two CPU's are around the same price, actually I think the FX-6350 is a bit more. Anyway what would be a better build for the money? And I would think that if your overclocking the FX CPU you would want a high quality PSU.

You'll also want a good motherboard if you're looking at overclocking. Ones I recommend:

M5A97 R2.0
GA-970A-UD3
GA-970A-UD3P
M5A99X
GA-990FXA-UD3
GA-990FXA-UD5
GA-990FXA-UD7
Sabertooth 990FX

The GA 970A UD3(p) would be ample. It's stable enough for overclocking.

Remember if you're looking at overclocking you'll need an aftermarket cooler also, a CM Hyper 212 EVO is suitable for a mild overclock, maybe to 4.3GHz.

As for the power supply, Seasonic, Corsair, XFX all make good ones. Make sure to get at least 80+ bronze and preferrably 550W+.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it is not easy no overclock an i3 haswell. I guess most can only overclock the unlocked intel CPU's. The FX series is a great value but that is probably from a gaming perspective. the i3 4130 is much better architecture, and much faster most applications. On the other hand the FX 6100 an 6350 have 6 cores and you can clock them quite high. So I can see for gaming and stuff like video editing it will do better. But this PC is for a friend and he is a casual gamer. I am just trying to help him build a good PC for around $450.

i really disagree, because for 10 dollars more, you can go from 3.5ghz to 4.2ghz, which is awesome for price/performance ratio.

Both have their advantages, but I think the edge goes to the FX-63XX for versatility. A lot of people will boo-hoo the power consumption, particularly when overclocking, but what GPU you select will effect the overall system draw more than anything else.

The market is heading towards a multi-threaded environment, supposedly, so the FX-63XX may have better longevity.
