I have the Gigabyte Z77P-D3 motherboard which is a 1155 socket. I have purchased the Thermalright Venomous X heatsink which is 1156 socket. Returning the product is not an option.

Are there any creative hacks by which I can still use my heatsink?

Solution
The heatsink mounting holes are identical between lga 1156 and lga 1155. You should be able to use that heatsink just fine without even needing any "creative hacks".

The one which you have linked is a Venomous X RT, mine is just a Venomous X. Maybe the RT fits both 1155 and 1156 because they provide separate brackets for 1155 as well? or is it that 1155 and 1156 have same brackets?

I am assembling the PC right now, I can't seem to get the alignment of the mounting screw-holes right. The bracket seems bigger. Am I doing it wrong?
