Problem with monitor, possible GPU malfunction

So I've been using my new gaming rig for quite a while now, it never had any problem until now. The problem is, whenever I open a game there is a slight chance the monitor will just shut down. When it does, the screen goes black and tells me there is no DVI signal but the pc is still running and the sound is playing too.
Everything is new, the monitor and cables are new too. I've read somewhere that it can't be the monitor since the cables are connected properly and it can't just shut down for no reason, and it might be the GPU. I barely play any high performance games cause I'm waiting for the new ones coming in 2014, but I built my pc to handle them.
Specs are: Gygabite Radeon R9 280X
Monitor: BenQ RL2455HM LED 24" LED HDMI/DVI
PSU: Corsair VS550 550W

Update: I noticed when this happens the GPU is doing a lot of noise similar to when it's overclocking really hard. This happened while playing Hearthstone. (lol)

Okay, I did what you said and it seemed to work fine for a day or 2 but it just happened again right now. Opened Hearthstone and after a few minutes the GPU goes nuts and starts clocking really fast, monitor shuts down too. I uninstalled all GPU drivers and installed the latest ones.

How am I supposed to see that if monitor shuts down and tells me there is no DVI signal? When it doesnt shut down it usually is at 40º C when playing Hearthstone at high settings...

probably its a disk error.run a through analysis with check disk to correct the hdd errors.the sectors on which the files and drivers are stored might be corrupted and when the computer tries to access it .it crashed

that's my theory LOl :)

I used cmd.exe to run a check disk and it doesn't seem to have any problem. ("Windows has checked the file system and found no problems").
Any ideas of what could it be?
