I have an older Acer tower that developed a problem. When the machine is turned on, there are no beeps and it doesn't post. There is no video signal. I tried reseating ram and boards w/no success. If I disconnect power and remove the cmos battery fro 5-10 min., the machine will post and I can set the bios and continue. Once the machine is turned off and back on the next day, the problem repeats. I have tried to boot with no ram, and swapped ram out. With no ram installed on boot, the issue is the same.

at 7 years, it could be the CMOS battery, would probably be one of the cheaper repair attempts. Other than that, at 7 years age, it could be quite a few things. I'd try the CMOS battery.

Ok, swapped out battery yesterday and it seems to have done the trick. I will find out for sure after work since the computer will be off all day. I never thought that a dead battery could cause that problem ( it didn't in the old days), but I saw some posts to day that have to do with the battery with plug and play devices.
