I am not a newbie, but this is my first build in about 10 years. A lot has changed, obviously. I have a Cooler Master Storm Enforcer which has front (200) and a rear (120) fans with three pin connectors. The mobo is MSI Z87-G55 which has Sysfan headers with four pins. Cooler master included molex adapters, but the smaller adapter (not molex) is also three pin. Can I make this work or do I need to buy some kind of adapter? I know the fourth pin is voltage control (something they did not have at my last build) but I'm unsure whether I should use the right three pins or the left three pins.

On your fan power connection, it will have these two long pieces sticking out of it. Those pieces will slide in to fit perfectly on the motherboard Sysfan headers. The ones I have seen always go on the left three, assuming you are looking at it from the back (where there is a plastic-looking piece sticking up and covering vision of some of the pins).

Also, you will need an adapter if you want to hook up the molex to the Sysfan spots.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you Cashe. I have another query. When i boot my new computer. The CPU fan does not always run. For example, I booted this morning and it was running but then it was not. I turned it off, because I was worried about heat and the CPU, and when I just turned it back on the fan was not running again. Is there some kind of thermostat, or should I look for some other problem? Thank you.

You could download the freeware: Core Temp

it monitors your CPU core temperatures, what processor/heat sink are you using?
If it's a fairly basic CPU it could be that the fan is not running due to the temperature not being above a certain range to activate it.

If you are looking for a thermostat, the BIOS will have that a lot. Or you can download a program like speedfan to monitor everything. But, as for the fan not working, check to see that it is plugged into CPU slot one. It would be best to plug it in again to see if that fixes it.

Okay I opened up my box, and I saw the fan connector had somehow gotten stuck between the blades. I pulled it out and tied it down and now all seems good. Thank you again.
