I'm using a core i5-3470 with a r9 280x gpu and 8 gigs of rm colcked @ 1600. the current mobo is a gigabyte ga-B75M-HD3. I do not intend to OC anything. will upgrading to a better mobo improve my gaming performance

It doesnt unless your taking into account overclocking, in which case it depends, but is variable to how well your chip overclocks as well.

Motherboards arent a performance component, your looking to get a reliable board with the most features, because there is no motherboard that's "faster" than another.

No, It wont much improve gaming performance. But having a better mobo is of profit if you want to oc cpu or gpu or crossfire your gpu. It also is more power efficient when oc'd, but with that cpu you wont notice much difference. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
