Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: this month

Budget Range: The aim is $500 with shipping. MIR are ok.

System Usage from Most to Least Important:

This is a build for a 11 year old new to the PC. He needs something to make movies, run a CAD like program, learn how to code and make mods, and he want to try and make an APP. He also wants to try PC gaming. I have a steam account I will share with him (I am his uncle).

Are you buying a monitor: No he will be using 1080p (22 inch screen)

Parts to Upgrade: I got a spare gts 250 gpu that he will stat off with until he shows real interest. I think a 270x lvl card will be added later.

Do you need to buy OS: NO.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, (USA)

Location: City, USA: CA.

Parts Preferences: by brand or type (e.g.: I would like to upgrade to Intel CPU)

I dont care if AMD or intel, but I do want a 4 or more core cpu.

Overclocking: Yes, but not right now so no aftermarket coolers pls

SLI or Crossfire: No / Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050,

Additional Comments: I need parts with lots of good reviews. I will be sending the parts to my nephew and we are going to so a skype build...I want stuff that is reliable b/c I will not be there for the build.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: The kid is showing real promise in design and fabrication. He lacks a PC and software exposure. This build will be his "lab" so it needs to be that 1st and a gaming rig 2nd.

Here is my idea of what it might look like:

1 NZXT Source 210 S case @ $39.99
1 Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM @ $64.99
1 ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard @ $89.99
1 CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W Power Supply @ $49.99
1 G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 @ $74.99
1 AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) @ $119.99
1 GTS 250 GPU (FREE)

I think you should get the asus m5a78 motherboard. It's not as great as m5a97 but it will satisfy your current needs and will help you to save some money so that you can spend more on the gpu.
If you dont mind, then sell your current gpu and let the kid have r9 270x as soon as possible.
I really don't think anything else needs to be changed or corrected. Nice build.

Thanks!. I changed the Mobo. It looks like a basic mobo...cheap w/ good reviews. Nice find!

That puts me at 400ish...I still dont see a gpu in the 100 buck range that would do a whole lot better that running a gts 250 till we save up for a 270x
