Well it depends what games are laggy. If you are having issues with Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4, then that is to be expected with those specifications. If, however, you are struggling with TF2 and Minecraft, it could be another issue. Try reinstalling your drivers, that has always seemed to cause problems with some people, including myself, with gameplay performance.

What games are you playing? That might help a lot with finding your issue.

That CPU & GPU really should be fast enough to play most games well enough.

That's a dual core Haswell CPU that turbos up to 3Ghz, so that's quite decent for a laptop. Also, upgrading CPU is probably not possible with your laptop. You'd have to return it and get a new one.

Typically when you buy a laptop most of the software is taken care of already, but it is a possibility.

Well, unfortunately, your hardware is not quite up to the task for maxing out games like those at a smooth experience. If however you are playing on lower settings at lower resolutions, you should be okay. My AMD APU laptop with much worse specs and integrated graphics runs BF4 on low settings at 1366x768 at around 40 FPS, so you should be getting fair performance on low-medium settings even at 1080P. What settings do you play at and on what resolution?

You are GPU (Video/Graphics card) limited, not CPU limited.

If it works better on lower resolution & no anti-aliasing that means the GPU can't handle the extra work well enough for you to enjoy the game play.

If your problem was CPU then if you were to lower the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1368x768 you would see little improvement. Since you saw the opposite happen, it means your GPU is the one having trouble keeping up.
