most cpus like it better when you don't mix the ram. sometimes you can cause system instability (depending on the cpu you have, the whole amd k10 lineup really hates mix and match) and you certainly will limit your overclocks.

Solution

I think 2x 4gb is better due to dual channel memory.

It shouldn't mess up your system though.
