Can I just "switch" cards?

hello. so i decided to upgrade my old card (GT 630) to a GTX 660 that just came in the mail yesterday, along with a new 500w PSU.
Last night I took my old card out, then placed my new one in, connected up the new PSU, and tried booting up my PC. I get to a screen that says press "ESC" for setup. When I press ESC, nothing happens. My MOBO makes a quiet "beep" sound every time I press a key. (only if i press ESC a couple times beforehand).
I read online that sometimes you must uninstall the old cards' drivers before installing a new GPU.. Do i have to do this? I know the problem is the card because I tried taking it out, and my PC booted up perfectly fine w/ the old GPU. Did i miss a step somewhere? or is my card just defective? also, could it be that my stock MOBO is not compatible w/ the new GPU? thanks!

No you don't have to uninstall the drivers, your computer isn't even posting... drivers aren't even relevant here. This sounds like the card wasn't inserted correctly into your motherboard, or that you didn't attach your PSU cables correctly. Try re-inserting your old graphics card to rule out the new PSU or other components (like memory) being knocked out of their sockets as the problem. If your old card works and you have tried to correctly seat your new card several times then it is likely a problem with your new card.

thanks for the answer. I think i may have to get my card RMA'd :( the old card works fine and boots up perfectly with the new PSU, so it has to be the new card. One final question, do I get the RMA from Amazon or Gigabyte?

Oh... sorry about that. I thought you had an AMD card XD

Anyway, that PSU should be fine. Either way, uninstall the old drivers and install the new ones. Can you also give us your complete system specs?
