I've recently over clocked my amd fx-8120 from 3.11ghz to 4ghz. I've set my voltage to 1.4. What I'm wondering is 20C to 30C a good idle temperature?

Solution
Idle isnt the temp you need to worry about; Being room temperature plus a few degrees as it were, it can drift by several degrees C according to your room temperature. The maximum temp will also vary, but that is the one you need to establish a 'Maximum' on. (come rain or shine, as you wont remember to re do your overclock the first sunny day you get)

20C to 30C is way good especially after an overclock. That cpu runs hot so make sure you double check the temps with another program (HWmonitor for example). If the temps check out, you are golden. I think 62C is the max for the 8120.

I'll go ahead and assume ambient temp is my room temp. It's different every day. It's normally warmer than everywhere else since my room is technically in the attic. It's normally in the 60's- 70's depending on how hot it is outside. It's probably around 60F right now in my room.

I am not comfortable with the 70 degs. C temp especially when the ambient is in the 60s F- shoot for 60 to 65 degs C (or less) while gaming. Also check the pump and fans speeds, and make sure that the flow is good (no kinks, blockages, etc).

It is probably the liquid cooling that is giving you the low idle temps which is good.

As we head into summer watch those temps and take the OC down a notch if necessary.

I clocked it down to 3.5 last night just to see what the temps are like with that.

The heatsink I use on my overclocked i7 3770K setup is the CM Hyper 212 EVO - works great for me. Look into this one.
