Building my first gaming PC, have chosen some components already but need some advice on if these will all work optimally together and if there are any better alternatives.

What do you think about these components:

- Intel Core i7 4770K processor
- Seagate 240GB SSD
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 graphics card
- Asrock H87M Pro4 Motherboard (not sure about this one, don't know what to look for in a mother board)
- NZXT HAVIK CPU Cooler with Dual 140MM Fan
- G.Skill 12GB (3 x 4GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
- Western Digital 1000GB (1TB) 7200rpm SATA-III 6Gbps HDD w. 64MB Cache (WD10EZEX) Caviar Blue
- ASUS DRW-24D3ST DVD Writer Drive
- SilverStone 500W Strider Essential - ATX 12V v2.3, EPS 12V, 120mm Fan, 80 Plus power supply.

Still haven't chosen a case, monitor, mouse ect. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and any suggestions or changes to my tower components would also be very helpful.

You don't want the motherboard you listed unless you do not intend to overclock or use a multi-GPU setup in the future. In all likelihood you will want a Z87 series mobo. I'd also consider getting a GTX 7xx series GPU.

Yeah its a good but there is a lot of problems. Change the ssd to a 120gb samsung 840 evo ssd. Also, change the graphics card to a 770. Why 12 gb ram you dont need that much. Also with the h87 motherboard, you cant take full advantage of the 4770k. Also, why nzxt havik. There are many problems with your build, could you just tell me your budget

Well, there are a few critiques I have for you. One, you really don't need more than 8GB of RAM for a gaming rig, or even a rig for light-medium video editing as well. Second, you want to get dual channel RAM, so either two sticks of 4 GB, or two sticks of 6GB if you want 12 GB for some reason.

Second, I'm not sure what you want to be doing with this PC, so you'll have to let me know, but assuming you want to game on it as well as anything else, you've got a lot of CPU power compared to GPU. You could always stick with having a beefy as heck CPU and add another GTX 670 in the future for an SLI configuration, but I would think about going for an i5 4670K or i7 3770K or something, really the only differences between the i5 4670K and the i7 4770K is hyperthreading. This is entirely up to you though, just my two cents for a gaming machine. Then again, I need to know what you want to do with your PC and what res monitor you will be using.

Third, that PSU is simply not cut out for the job. You will want 600W or more 80 Plus Bronze power supply unit, and if you do plan to get 2 GTX 670's in the future, I would say get a 750W unit now so you don't have to change that when you get your second card in. If you don't plan to SLI then you're fine with a 600W or something, but I would say from a good brand such as Corsair or SeaSonic, or another reputable company.

The i7 is abit over the edge because the hyperthreadning only really kicks in if you're video editing / streaming and that sort of stuff. If i was you, i would move down to a i5 4670k (remember to check your motherboard socket) and upgrade your gpu to an Gtx 770 (My personal choice would be the Evga gtx 770 sc. Evga for Acx coolers, super costumer service and a really high base / boost clock on the superclocked version)

ps: you don't need more than 8gb of ram and i don't know if your motheboard is dual or quad channel memory. Dual channel = 2x 4gb

Budget is anywhere between $1500 - $2500, so yea i will get a better graphics card most likely the gtx 770. I will be using for both gaming and music production (this justifies the extra ram). Really not sure what motherboard to get as I don't really know what to look for so any suggestions would be great. Chose the nzxt havik on advice from someone, what would be a better option?

Here is a good build. You can change the gtx 760 to whatever. I would change it to a 780 and add asus donar dx and your build is set right here my friend.

Your not doing just music production though. You are doing gaming also like you mentioned. right now, most builds have i5's unless they are video editing builds and are above 2000 dollars. Plus when you go with the i5 you are getting the best graphics card right now.

Ok that makes sense, so the difference between the i7 and i5 in my case is negligible? IE it's more important to have a better graphics card than a slightly better cpu?. also should i go with 8, 12 or 16 gigs of ram?

There is difference between i5 and i7 and its called hyperthreadning. It only kicks in if you're video editing or streaming so its not very useful in your situation for the price. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnS50lJicXc here is a quick video that explains it)

The graphics card is way more important than the cpu for gaming but you do need a cpu that doesn't bottleneck your gpu.

If you're only gaming, i recommend only going for 8gb of ram, but if you're planning to stream or such thing, then i would recommend moving up to 12gb of ram

No the psu is perfect as it is, I would recommend switching to the ud3h because its cheaper, is almost as good as the ud4h, will have a nice blue color scheme with the whole entire build, and with the money you save, you can get a extra fan if you want to. Otherwise, its a set build I hope you enjoy it, make sure to select best answer.
