I am using this cpu on a current build and I went with the Asus p8z77-v-pro, but the Asrock extreme4 and the Gigabyte udh3 were all in the running.
It really just comes down to the preference of how many periphrials you want or require

I wouldn't recommend an ASRock z77 extreme4 since it has d-pak mosfets. It's pretty much the worst component in the market. They have large size, high gate charge and high resistance. Not suitable at all for the low switching frequency requirements of modern power designs. None of the manufacturers are using that cheap components even at the entry level.

I know that most of the reviewers- even the most famous ones- are usually told to not remove the heatsink but they can't stop us enthusiasts right? :)

I'd recommend a Gigabyte z77x-ud3h or msi z77a-gd65.

Oh, please. You are supposed to suggest the best production and component quality for the price right? So please don't suggest a motherboard with d-pak mosfets. D-paks not even used by a motherboard manufacturer for years, since it's not efficient enough for modern power design needs, well until ASRock put it to some of their z77 boards... Now they are not using them too, since they must have noticed that they made a huge mistake... I'm losing my faith in Tom's Hardware forums quickly here...
