So I upgraded to a gtx 760 and everything seemed fine, it is getting power (the asus cu has a light indicator) and when I went to boot it just would not get past the splash screen then when it does finally do something, it just gives me a black screen with a blinking underscore on the top left.

I thought it might be the card but my cousin tried it in his rig and it worked. My specs are

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2544811

Gateway DX4870
Intel core i7-3770
14gb ddr3 ram (kingston)
500w thermaltake R2 PSU
gtx 550ti (works fine) and a Sapphire HD 6870 (works fine)
Asus direct CU GTX 760 (not booting)
Windows 8.1 Pro

That computer and a 500W PSU thermaltake (same as my cousins and he runs this exact same card just fine)

Now he ALSO has a gateway PC and his computer is working fine with this card, which let me to believe that maybe I needed a bios update. So I went to the gateway website, downloaded the bios and it updated to a newer (2013) version. Tried again and no luck. I just don't know what to do. Do I just need to get a new motherboard and just transfer all my components to the new motherboard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Could be he has a different motherboard or motherboard revision. Either way I'm guessing your card isn't getting enough power right away and is refusing to POST properly. Sometimes you just find a motherboard and GPU that don't like each other. My friend had that issue with a 6850 that wanted more power than usual. He was fine with a 7850 though, go figure. Anyway I say you should just return your GPU and see if you can't get a different model.

He has the exact same card. Should I try to get his card and see if it works with my PC? Or do you think since its the same model GPU it will have the same effect?

Thanks
