I have searched and this is probably so simple I should know. My mobo GAZ87MXD3H has 4 PCIe slots: PCIEX16; EX1; EX8 & EX4. I have a 1394 PCIe card (PEX1394B3LP) and a WiFi PCIe card (TL-WDN4800) but don't know which slots are the best to use. I use onboard gfx. Will someone please advise?

Solution
This is a little complicated. On a z87 chipset, its pci-e(3) I do believe.
The pci-e x 16 means it has 16 lanes running at pci-E 3 bandwidth.
X8 means 8 lanes at pci-e3 bandwidth, and so on.
Put the bigger bandwidth card in the X16 slot.
TBH, I suspect you wont notice much diff, but it wouldnt hurt to try them the other way round. Read the manuals, eh?
Without a graphics card you cant lose much.
In fact, even hi end pci-e 3 cards run pretty fine at x8 lanes; the board tech is in front of the accessories.

Manuals say much less than your advice! Thank, mate!
